My love affair with Anthropologie began about 3 years ago when I came across it in the States, and now it's much anticipated arrival in Scotland {it's only the 3rd store in the UK - 2 in London. Figures!} has got my heart beating like a jungle drum.
We don't get retail treats like this very often and in the Capital as well, so when I noticed the 'Anthropologie coming soon' sign a few months ago on George Street I jumped up & down a bit on my invisible trampoline with a grin the size of texas.
For those of you who have never heard of 'A', let me tell you. This is no ordinary shop: it's an experience. The official opening took place on Wed 15th & within 5 seconds of arriving I was smitten again. The store is visually stunning, full of amazing clothes, books, homeware & interiors. The staff are everything you want & expect in a store assistant. They are not sales people, but more like friends at hand to help you if you need it. They're really sweet and friendly. When I told them I was a stylist & blogger they were more than happy for me to take photos, and in turn I am more than happy to give them a chocolate sprinkled appraisal.
I could have spent hours just walking around, sitting on the mustard couch drinking chai lattes and admiring all the clothes, but I had a deadline so i could only spend an hour - much longer than I usually care to spend in any shop. But it's a little like being in an old colonial seafront home. I just couldn't help myself.
I was told that customers spend, on average, 1.5 hours browsing - now that says it all! I picked up about 3 books but could easily have gone for 300. It's like a vintage, sea breeze, ornamental, cosy, library, interior, wardrobe treasure trove. If you don't believe me, then go and see for yourself. I BEG you.

I love that store! It is too expensive for me right now though, so I just look around and pretend I can buy everything :)
ReplyDeleteugh i just want to move to anthro and live there forever....
ReplyDeletemy obsession. i worked there when i was first teaching out of college. even the smell of the store is divine.
ReplyDeleteahhh i'd die to go to the one in edinburgh.
First of all, I can't believe you lived without an Anthro by you for any extended period of time! (; Second, I would have RAN to the store once it went in! How fun! Agree with Sarah...just the smell makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I are addicted to Anthropologie also! They ship to Australia but we are far from having a store I'm affraid :-(. For now though, it's a fabulous bonus to holidays in the US or Europe!
